Many versions of the original marathon story feature a Greek herald or courier named Pheidippides, who is said to have run from Marathon to Sparta and back, and then from Marathon to Athens. Some historians dispute the details, and we don’t care for the traditional ending that had him collapsing and dying at the end of his run! We do know, though, that we run in the footsteps of all who came before us, including the seven people below who believed in a new Classic City Marathon long before it ever came into being. We call them our original supporters and Friends of Pheidippedes. Thank them, when you see them.
